2019: The Landing Obligation is on, DiscardLess finishes, A book is published!!

The Landing Obligation has been voted by the EU in the Common Fishery Policy Reform of 2013, and gradually implemented between 2015 and 2018. Since 1st January 2019, it is applied on most regulated species in European waters. This has of course not been an easy process, and many issues are still unresolved. The article below published in Science magazine provides a short and clear overview on the main challenges and controversies: http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2019/01/controversial-european-policy-bans-ships-throwing-unwanted-fish-overboard

As a longer read, DiscardLess scientists have been the main contributors to a nice collective book on the European Landing Obligation, that has been released shortly before Christmas. 20 chapters spanning on economy, ecology, politics and technology… It’s all in there! The book is in full open access and for free download at: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007%2F978-3-030-03308-8

Finally, the end of the Landing Obligation implementation period marks also the end of our research project Discardless… To mark the end of this nice endeavour we are hosting a Science-Policy Conference in Copenhagen on 30-31 January 2019. The updated Agenda is provided here. There are some seats left so if you would be interested to attend all or parts of the sessions, please register at: https://www.conferencemanager.dk/DiscardlessFinalConference.

Looking forward to see you there!
