Strategies for the gradual elimination of discards in European fisheries
The manuscript of a full book on the EU landing Obligation has just sent to the publisher Springer Nature, and is expected to be published in January 2019. It is entitled “The European Landing Obligation − reducing discards in complex, multi-species and multi-jurisdictional fisheries” and is edited by Sebastian Uhlmann (Belgium), Clara Ulrich (Denmark) and Steve Kennelly (Australia).
The book will contain 20 chapters, providing a comprehensive examination of the European Landing Obligation policy from many relevant perspectives. Chapters include evaluations of the policy’s impacts at economical, socio-cultural, ecological and institutional levels. They also discuss the feasibility and benefits of several potential mitigation strategies.
The Discardless partners have significantly contributed to this book, authoring or contributing to twelve of the twenty chapters. The book will therefore represent a good synthesis of the work performed and the progresses achieved during our project.
The two EU projects DiscardLess and MINOUW (http://minouw-project.eu/) are sponsoring the open-access fees to this book, and all chapters will therefore be freely available on the internet after publication.
