LogoDiscardLess Strategies for the gradual elimination of discards in European fisheries

Looking back – one year after project start

Looking back – one year after project start

We had our first annual meeting in Boulogne in March 2016 where we met with several stakeholders from the Eastern Channel fishing area and exchanged ideas and experiences on the future of sustainable fisheries. See our short movie of that meeting along with the summary of the round table discussions in Video, under the Media section. Here, we have also included an introduction movie which gives a concise overview of the DiscardLess project, our goals, and the various challenges and benefits of reducing discards across European fisheries, while maintaining the economic viability of the industry.

An overview of the work achieved so far in the various regions is available in Newsletter. For a more thorough read, see our presently available scientific publications featured in Scientific Publications. The articles will give you an in-depth view on several specific challenges and their solutions, in regard to the physical, social and economic aspects of maximising fishing yield while reducing unwanted catch.

With the DiscardLess project gaining momentum we will keep the website updated with the latest news, while communicating our results across various fora. If you wish to stay updated on the progress of the DiscardLess project along with any external news with reference to our work, please be sure to follow us on Twitter @DISCARDLESS!
