    Fishermen on the beach at Armação de Pera in the Algarve. They fix nets and shoot the breeze and there are no pesky women to annoy them with jobs they said they'd do... from a restaurant on the sand after fresh grilled sardines. Mmmmm

    My daughter was on a sailing training week in Schull, West Cork. It's the perfect place for - colourful, friendly and so beautiful. I turned 50 that week and the sketching made what could have been a bit 😐 into sheer 😁

    Looking back through this sketchbook (beautifully made by Laloran), I'm immediately back in the Algarve just over a year ago. Back teaching there in a fortnight - can't wait.

    The very wonderful Sketch Tour of Portugal was the source and inspiration for these sketches in the Algarve last March. I'll be back there in two weeks' time to share some of my ways with watercolour with a lovely bunch of sketchers. Can't wait!

    Children (humans) love competition. It's part of life and on an instinctive level they know they need it. Getting used to success and failure, so it's not such a shock later on in life, is a gift we can give them.
